From KC Star Press Release We are always seeking another good place to eat close to home, this Saturday Milton and Sue took us over to Hume, MO to check out the restaurant they had discovered there. Hume is about the same distance from the farm as Rich Hill and we were ready for something new. It was darn hot, I was glad to get inside the cool building and out of the hot sun. The first thing I noticed was how nice the place was, they have really fixed the old building up; the place was clean and nicely decorated. We ran into some folks who had been married. I had left my camera at home so I used my phone for pictures. I walked around admiring the historical pictures from Hume's past; coal shovels, coal trains and coal trucks mostly; when I noticed a picture of Jesus and a picture of The Duke, I knew I was gonna like this place. The iced tea was just what I needed after being out in the stifling heat Saturday. The food was great, the service was excellent and the prices were quite fair. I ate light so I would have room for the Blackberry cobbler and ice cream. It was a hard decision because we were going to Rich Hill later and I was looking forward to a peanut butter shake from Swope's Drive In. ![]() When we finished dinner, we headed on over the Bates County Produce at Rich Hill. They have the best darn soap you have ever used. Since we've had some of the grand-kids at our place all summer, we have been using up a lot of my favorite cinnamon soap. While we were there we couldn't resist picking up some fresh melons, plums and some of that wonderful Amish produce. The Bates County Museum announced on their Facebook page that they are working on a new exhibit covering the Minuteman Missiles that were deployed in Bates County in the 1960's - 1990's during the "Cold War". Those silo's are still here in Bates County; although they were imploded in the 90's, covered with a concrete cap and then covered with soil Not many; however remember the band of peace wacko's and aging hippies from Chicago and elsewhere who broke into the restricted area around the silo's in August of 1988, cutting locks and spray painting slogans, like "you can't hug anybody with nuclear arms". They were promptly arrested and taken to the Bates County Jail. In a previous protest about 5 miles Southwest of Butler, MO, in 1987 a group of wackos; also mostly from Illinois, used wire cutters and hammers to break into a Minuteman 2 silo site. Some of the group were related to Jean T. Gump who was previously sentenced to six years in a federal prison for damaging a Whiteman missile site in March of 1986.

One of our dear friends and a long-time employee Tiffany Null has been sick for over a year and a half. Her husband Dave Null, a native of Bates County and a firefighter has put together a benefit auction and dinner to help pay some of the medical expenses they have from the illness. Please visit the website we built called Hope for Tiffany and see if you can help, even if all you do is tweet, share or tell your friends about the auction it would be helpful. The folks at 92.1 KMOE and KMAM 1530 The Bullet are helping by advertising the event on the air. We'd like to thank the good people of KMOE for their help. You can also join the event page on Facebook and help us get the word out. Thanks for helping and God Bless. Social Media and Real Estate 06/07/2010
Social Media and Real Estate what can it do for you? Many Realtors are now using; and touting the benefits of social media. We have been using social media for years now and have had great success with it. The question remains why use it and what good does it do? Social media is one of the fastest growing segments of Internet usage many people now spend more time on Facebook than watching TV. Social media comes in many forms; link sharing sites like Twitter, Digg, Propeller, stumble Upon and Delicious help drive traffic by telling people what sites you think are worth sharing. Utimately other users of those sites hopefully click and follow your link increasing your traffic and your ranking. Sites like Facebook and MySpace allow you to display content and links to information on your site or just to blather on about something related to your business. But the real benefit to these sites is the accessibility to millions of potential clients you may not have otherwise reached. Facebook; in particular offers very useful advertising options, that can be used to target people based on personal likes and interests as well as gender, age, location and education. Facebook and MySpace also allow you to update your "friends/fans" of news or events via their connection to your presence on those sites. Selling horse farms like the several we have listed means that we often use ads to target users of social media who have an expressed interest in horses, horse training or equestrian sports. Social media works best when others like the content of your blog, website or page and share it with friends through their social network. Please feel free to click the share button above and become one of our Facebook friends also. | |||||
